Race For Hunger

Food For The Poor is pleased to announce its first Multinational Virtual Race For Hunger on June 1-30. Participants in the United States, Canada and Jamaica will raise funds to provide 1 million lifesaving meals to children and families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Caribbean and Latin America. In addition, five homes will be built and provided to impoverished families living in Jamaica. Participants from across the nations will have an opportunity to walk, run or ride while fundraising to support families living in desperate need.

The event invites participants of all ages to join in the fun from wherever they are and will feature various challenges. Walkers and runners will have a choice of a 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon. This year’s event offers options for cyclists who want to join in with a choice of 10 miles, Quarter Century (25 miles), Metric Century (62.13 miles) and an Imperial Century (100 miles). The race offers beginner-friendly to advanced-level fitness challenges.

Participants will have the entire month of June to complete their Race For Hunger challenge in however many sessions desired, whenever and wherever they like.

Golf For Guyana - September 11, 2021

The community of Baramita is located in a remote northern region in Guyana. Of its population of approximately 3,500,  95% of the community lives in extreme poverty. By participating in the Golf For Guyana tournament, you can help address issues of deepening poverty; support education, infrastructure, and income-generating projects that directly help the community to thrive.

Agriculture – Individual or communal farming allows families to have a consistent food supply for their children, learn transferable skills in agriculture, and earn a supplemental income to support their everyday needs. There are many opportunities for agricultural enterprises, but currently the community lacks the training and resources. With your support, an agricultural initiative will be implemented in the community.

The goal of this project is to promote social development in the community of Baramita by providing some basic human necessities, helping to lift the community out of extreme poverty. Last year, you helped to complete a Multipurpose Centre that gives the community a safe space to gather, learn, and grow! Let’s keep going!
