My First School Build – By Chanelle Perrier-Telemaque

My very first school build with Food For The Poor Canada (FFPC), as the new Senior Manager of Programming was an amazing personal and professional experience to the say the least. As an international development practitioner of Jamaican descent, working within the region is always an honour. This particular build took place in the southwestern Jamaica, somewhere I had never had the pleasure of exploring or learning about. For me, the highlight of projects like this is always learning about the area and the opportunity to interact with the children in the community, and this trip was no different. The children at Fyffes Pen Infant and Primary School were funny, creative and playful and watching them dance and enjoy the music while the volunteers worked was a blast. This experience was an extraordinary introduction to the organization and all the sweat that went into it was well worth it. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to do this great work and even more excited to do it with FFPC. I look forward to all the amazing projects to come!
