Together with our education partner Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation, Food For The Poor staff participated in the annual 5k walk for education also known as the Jam-walk to help raise funds for our upcoming school build in July in Port Antonio, Jamaica.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning in Ashbridges Bay Park, Toronto enjoyed among friends and partners united in their support for education in Jamaica. More than $30,000 was raised to build Mount Pleasant Basic School.

The new structure will include 3 classrooms, 1 office, 1 staff bathroom, 1 children’s bathroom, 1 sick bay, 1 kitchen, 1 storage space and exterior covered corridor linking all spaces. A 5’ high galvanized security fence with vehicular and pedestrian access, along with playground equipment (1 swing, 1 see-saw, 1 jungle gym & 1 slide) will also be provided.

29 students, 4 teachers and one ancillary staff will directly benefit from the new school with proper facilities, conducive to teaching and learning and a more safe and healthy environment. The indirect beneficiaries include the residents of the adjoining districts of Mount Pleasant, a community of over 3,000 residents.

Join our next build to help make a lasting impact on a community in need.
